|My greatest influences as an artist came from the painters of the 1950's, 60's, and early 70's, especially the abstract expressionists. There is something so completely thrilling to me in an interesting composition, the juxtaposition of colors, and the intrigue of one beautiful line or brushstroke. I am sometimes awed at the beauty of a certain luscious quality of paint.
My paintings are often inspired by an idea or feeling that I have about the environment or nature. I begin with that idea, and let the brush and the paint do the rest. The composition is refined along way, usually after several coats of paint have been laid down. I am always interested in the deconstruction of shapes and lines, and want to be able to see into the canvas, through the paint. The whole experience is thoroughly gratifying. It's a blast!
