|Zebra mussel babe
Ate a ship, spit a human
Felled an industry
These paintings reflect the angst between the natural world and human beings; how a tiny zebra mussel can be a part of felling a shipping industry. They are also about the correlations and commonalities that we share. Common traits such as: intuition, intelligence, and a desire for independence.
The paintings are the end result of a search to perceive what is truly there in the world through meditations, writings, and digital photographs. I begin with a simple premise; an idea sparked from a new perception about the world. A beautiful swamp cabbage reflected in the murky water, the sun shining on it so that it appears to be a precious gem. It is the only green thing for miles after a long winter. That’s enough to spark my interest. I never intend a narrative work. The process of painting reveals the story. For me it is about putting a human face on nature.
